Upgradation & Reconstruction of Sendhwa–Varla Road — 105 km, NDB-II Package 07

VRSIPL executed the upgradation and full reconstruction of 105.29 km of major district roads in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani and Khargone districts under NDB-II Package 07 — a programme funded by the New Development Bank (formerly BRICS Development Bank) to upgrade district connectivity across central India. Completed at ₹211.02 crore within 24 months, this was one of the longest continuous road packages executed by VRSIPL in a single contract. The corridor runs through the tribal-dominant Sendhwa region of western Madhya Pradesh connecting scattered rural habitations, agricultural markets, and district towns that lacked all-weather road access. Prior to reconstruction, the route suffered from poor sub-grade stability, repeated monsoon damage, and inadequate pavement design that left communities isolated during the June–September monsoon season. VRSIPL completely reconstructed the full 105.29 km from subgrade level upward — no patch repairs or overlays — delivering a new structural pavement designed for 20+ year design life. The pavement structure comprised engineered earthwork embankment, granular sub-base (GSB), wet mix macadam (WMM), dry lean concrete (DLC) sub-base, dense bituminous macadam (DBM), and bituminous concrete (BC) wearing course — with PQC rigid concrete sections on critical high-load segments. Multiple RCC minor bridges and box culverts were constructed to provide reliable drainage and river crossing structures across seasonal nullahs and streams, replacing the existing weak crossings that were frequently washed out. Road geometry was improved at curves, junctions, and crest curves to meet current IRC highway standards, with road safety infrastructure including guardrails, delineators, km posts, and signage throughout. The project delivered all-weather road connectivity across 105 km of district roads and directly improved access for hundreds of villages across Barwani and Khargone districts, supporting agricultural produce movement, school and healthcare access, and economic activity in one of Madhya Pradesh's most underserved tribal regions.
